Initially, I was not thrilled about the new Nike Vomero running shoe. Little did I know, I would soon change my mind completely...
Being a full-time runner, I have gone through pair after pair of Nike trainers. That being said I know which models I love to break out for my best sessions on the track, course, or in this case my everyday trainer. The new Nike Zoom Vomero has some significant upgrades that a prospective buyer must note, for instance; wider toe box, something that would speak volumes of difference for the runner who has average to wide feet. Another notable improvement would be the addition of the external flywire that helps lock down and further support the foot as you take flight in your weekly tempo, or when your climbing those gnarly hills to up the intensity before your next competition. That being said - you can rest assured knowing that although it reads as a neutral shoe, it offers plenty of lateral arch support on both sides.
One major difference I noted from the previous Vomero model that I was taken back a bit by was the overall stack height. Put together with about a 12mm heel-toe drop, it feels like you are pulling a lot more shoe off the ground and have a slightly less stride range than the older model. This could be a meticulous takeaway that maybe a less-experienced runner might discount, but was noticeable to me. Even though this was something I may have disliked initially, it was something I came to thank myself for after sticking it out for the first few weeks. One of the main reasons why this was so beneficial in the long run (no pun intended) was because with the vigorous rain and snowstorms one might have to train through in the winter season, having a more durable outsole and sitting just slightly higher in the shoe allows you to handle large puddles as well as fresh piles of snow powder on the sidewalk a little easier. It also boasts the ability to get anywhere from 50-75 more miles in the average life of the shoe!
All in all I have been most pleased with the upgrades and additions Nike has made to the shoe. I think every Vomero wearer will come to know and love this latest edition and wonder how they ever wore anything else.
